Running for a friend

"My stepdad was diagnosed with lung cancer in September and died in December, just a few months later. He was young - 49 years old. The last days of his life were trying - working hard just to take a breath. His passing inspired me to use the life and body that I have to it's capacity. So I registered and trained for the Minneapolis "Get Lucky 7K" in March - right around St. Patrick's Day. Hugh, my stepdad, was Irish through and through - so running this race in his honor was very special to me. On the back of the shirt, I had, "Every breath," printed. That was my running mantra - something that I repeated to myself when I felt winded on my training runs. Wearing this shirt that day reminded me of why I was running and to keep it up -even when it was getting tough. What I was doing was a choice that I had and Hugh's illness was not a choice. Working with CustomInk was so easy - the online design program made the process simple and inspiring. I wore the shirt with pride that day and still wear it when I need an emotional boost. Job well done!" - JenniferRace (Sep 14, 2011)
