About this campaign

Baby Brice was born with a rare congenital heart defect called HLHS. Local hospitals didn’t have the resources to intervene and treat him until a heart transplant. A hospital in Philadelphia took on his case, and his family left their jobs and school to be with him. On 9/13/2024 Brice received his heart transplant and is now on the long road to recovery!

Brice was born with a congenital heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) which means he has only half of a functioning heart. He also has severe tricuspid valve leakage which made him a risky candidate for the typical 3 stage palliation (Norwood, Glenn, and Fontan). Brice and his family are from Northern Virginia, but local hospitals could not do anything to support Brice, as the only option for him was transplant which the doctors did not think he would survive, unless given an intervention. The family then temporarily relocated to Philadelphia, PA to receive the best chance of care until transplantation. This means both Mom and Dad had to leave their jobs and big sis had to leave all her friends and family back in VA. Brice has had a rocky course since birth including a major heart surgery to place a Ventricular Assistive Device (VAD), called the Berlin Heart, has suffered 2 strokes affecting most of his brain, and many cath procedures to open up different pathways in his heart. He is still continuing to fight, and FINALLY received his heart transplant on 9/13/2024. Please keep Brice’s family in your prayers as they start this long road to recovery.
