My daughter, Jordan Burns, graduated 7th in her class from Bolivar Central High School in 2017. After graduation she attended The University of Memphis. While attending the University of Memphis, she decided that it was her calling to become a Physician Assistant. Jordan wanted to change the world and decided that being a Physician Assistant in Endocrinology would be the best way. Her goal was to change the standards and narrative for women within the medical field. On January 26, 2021, Jordan was diagnosed with a rare, spontaneous mutation of Pheochromocytoma. During her stay at St Jude, Jordan continued her studies within her biology major and Spanish minor. There would be some days she would intentionally wear her shirt that says the future is female in front of her team of doctors and nurses. Sadly, Jordan passed away unexpectedly on April 16, 2021, at St. Jude. Jordan was 21 at the time of her passing. In May 2021, Jordan was given her diploma posthumously by the University of Memphis. Jordan also was given a Senate Resolution by Senator Page Walley posthumously to showcase her public servant’s heart. Jordan was recognized for her many generous and kind gestures given individually for her community and individuals alike. While facing the reality of her diagnosis, I promised Jordan that I would continue her legacy to change her community near and far. There is now a scholarship in her honor.
